Remember that, generally speaking, the purpose of editing is to be as unnoticed as possible. With that in mind respect the use of straight cutting. Don’t try to get to fancy with dissolves and wipes unless they have deliberate, necessary purpose in the telling of the story because otherwise they just get distracting.
